I’m confused… Which side of the argument is the President on?
It’s the US Postal Service having the problems all the time…
—President Barak Obama
Isn’t the President making the point for the people hollering in town halls all over the country?
Like Allahpundit says on HotAir—the only thing that could have been better is if President Obama would have used the DMV or Medicare as a failed or failing government program to make the right’s argument that government doesn’ do well running things. (Speaking of which listen to how they talk about the failed public school sytem in this country sometime. And they want to run Healthcare?—Ha!)
WASHINGTON | Asset sales came after meeting with Fed, Treasury chiefs
As U.S. stock markets plummeted last September, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat, Dick Durbin, sold more than $115,000 worth of stocks and mutual-fund shares and used much of the money to invest in Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
“Durbin was doing what a lot of other people were doing, taking a look at their savings” and seeing it “start to tank and trying to preserve some level of wealth by getting out of the market,” said his spokesman, Joe Shoemaker.
…
And the excuse:
Shoemaker said Durbin didn’t capitalize on anything Paulson and Bernanke told congressional leaders at the Sept. 18 meeting.
Whatever information Paulson gave lawmakers wasn’t secret or classified and was disclosed publicly the next day, Shoemaker said.
The Commentary:
And they get away with it everythime! I heard someone say the other day that when you get elected to Congress you should have to put all investments in a blind trust for the durtion of you stay in Congress—to avoid the temptations of greed that seem to be part of the reason people run for office. Don’t let that bit about wanting what’s best for the country crap get in your head.
I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican or Purple—yes, they all do it and WE COULD stand up and prevent it if we all stood up as ONE! The technology of the day makes it easier than ever before!
You’ll know it! Hypocrisy by any other name is still, well, you know. Be prepared to answer your Liberal friends who conveniently won’t acknowledge that this piece of video tape exists and that it happens from their side too.
Prepare for the inevitable media finger-wagging towards Republicans who vote no on Sotomayor by refreshing your memory of how The One treated two eminent jurists while a member of the Senate. The clip of his Alito speech is shorter and more ironic — he worries about a judge who’d side with the executive branch in matters like (gasp!) indefinite detention — but the Roberts clip gives you a better feel for just how stupid and dishonest his litmus test is.
How do we make a bad situation good? How do we solve our oil dependency? How do we put our own people back to work (here in the US)? How do we make national transportation more affordable? How do we make travel more eco-friendly?
I read the opinion piece and I can go along with the premise—so read!
I write this on the morning of the end of the once-mighty General Motors. By high noon, the President of the United States will have made it official: General Motors, as we know it, has been totaled.
As I sit here in GM’s birthplace, Flint, Michigan, I am surrounded by friends and family who are filled with anxiety about what will happen to them and to the town. Forty percent of the homes and businesses in the city have been abandoned. Imagine what it would be like if you lived in a city where almost every other house is empty. What would be your state of mind?
It is with sad irony that the company which invented “planned obsolescence” — the decision to build cars that would fall apart after a few years so that the customer would then have to buy a new one — has now made itself obsolete. It refused to build automobiles that the public wanted, cars that got great gas mileage, were as safe as they could be, and were exceedingly comfortable to drive. Oh — and that wouldn’t start falling apart after two years. GM stubbornly fought environmental and safety regulations. Its executives arrogantly ignored the “inferior” Japanese and German cars, cars which would become the gold standard for automobile buyers. And it was hell-bent on punishing its unionized workforce, lopping off thousands of workers for no good reason other than to “improve” the short-term bottom line of the corporation. Beginning in the 1980s, when GM was posting record profits, it moved countless jobs to Mexico and elsewhere, thus destroying the lives of tens of thousands of hard-working Americans. The glaring stupidity of this policy was that, when they eliminated the income of so many middle class families, who did they think was going to be able to afford to buy their cars? History will record this blunder in the same way it now writes about the French building the Maginot Line or how the Romans cluelessly poisoned their own water system with lethal lead in its pipes.
But you and I and the rest of America now own a car company! I know, I know — who on earth wants to run a car company? Who among us wants $50 billion of our tax dollars thrown down the rat hole of still trying to save GM? Let’s be clear about this: The only way to save GM is to kill GM. Saving our precious industrial infrastructure, though, is another matter and must be a top priority. If we allow the shutting down and tearing down of our auto plants, we will sorely wish we still had them when we realize that those factories could have built the alternative energy systems we now desperately need. And when we realize that the best way to transport ourselves is on light rail and bullet trains and cleaner buses, how will we do this if we’ve allowed our industrial capacity and its skilled workforce to disappear?
1. Just as President Roosevelt did after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the President must tell the nation that we are at war and we must immediately convert our auto factories to factories that build mass transit vehicles and alternative energy devices. Within months in Flint in 1942, GM halted all car production and immediately used the assembly lines to build planes, tanks and machine guns. The conversion took no time at all. Everyone pitched in. The fascists were defeated.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — A man with “political and religious motives” killed a soldier just out of basic training and wounded another Monday in a targeted attack on a military recruiting center in Arkansas, police said. The shootings were not believed to be part of a broader scheme.
A police report based on an interview with the suspect says Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, told police he observed two soldiers in uniform, drove up to the recruiting center in Little Rock and started shooting.
“He saw them standing there and drove up and shot them,” Lt. Terry Hastings told The Associated Press. “That’s what he said.”
Muhammad had converted to Islam at some point in his life and interviews with police show he “probably had political and religious motives for the attack,” Police Chief Stuart Thomas said.

Intelligence officials released documents this evening saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was briefed in September 2002 about the use of harsh interrogation tactics against al-Qaeda prisoners, seemingly contradicting her repeated statements over the past 18 months that she was never told that these techniques were actually being used.
A stark contrast when Madam Speaker is with others liars. Then it’s a laughs and high fives!
You know why this isn’t funny at all? Because they put their own power before the safety of the people of America. They blah, blah, blah and the sheeple Baaah, baaah, baaah…
Will they admit it? What, call one of their own out—not a chance! What was the expression again? Culture of…
Sean Hannity is running amok. He’s bugging me more and more everyday…
Full disclosure: (if there was a doubt) Let me say I am a big fan of talk radio and the assorted conservative talking heads—Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, Levin, etc. I agree with most, but like they themselves proclaim, when someone they support misfires or steps out of line I will call them OUT on it.
Hannity over the years has been going in a direction I don’t care for. Don’t get me wrong we see the world in a similar way, but I find more and more that his rhetoric has become stale, canned, and rehashed over and over again and some of his arguments have become just transparent, like the Left—unwilling to accept and acknowledge when the other side does something that is actually good for the country. Obama’s steering the ship right now—he gets credit for the right conclusion to the pirate/hostage situation over the weekend. End of story!
Now, I get the reason for this, you need to keep repeating it all the time just like the other side, because people forget and are easily persuaded if someone isn’t beating the drum they stop paddling or start listening to another drum.
I don’t like it because I’m smart enough to draw my own conclusions and I don’t need someone else to tell me how or what to think.
So, what Alan Colmes did was at least keep Hannity somewhat honest. The other side was at least presented. I would agree that Colmes had weaker arguments, but they were also arguments I didn’t agree with so…
Now, it’s all Hannity, no other side and even when people who agree with him disagree, he refuses to accept other slightly different views than his own—it and he comes off as a cheap salesman.
Sorry Sean, that’s how I see it—you need to get Colmes or some other opposing view to balance the platform or it will get worse.
Now, the problem with calling one of your own out is that the other side will try to use it against you. Not the point. Hannity still has the values and philosophy I believe in, just some of the rhetoric needs to be adjusted.
The willingness of calling out one of our own is one attribute that I feel defines us, makes us different than the Left. Example: They won’t even admit, condemn,or call out someone they support even if it’s a womanizer who takes sexual advantage of 21 year old because of his position, makes use of government property to suit his own needs, betrays his family and the country he steers with lies to our faces, lies in court to cover it up, gets caught, gets impeached. No, they won’t do that.
Ask one right now and they will come up with a dozen excuses for horrible behavior they would never accept from their own spouse, father, boss, or adversary.
If GWB did that—Wowie! I would be the first to call for his resignation.
One hero rescued, 3 Pirates Dead, and one Pirate to be tried.
Damn Proud—that’s right! POTUS Obama did the right thing—can’t take that away and it should be recognized—he did what needed to be done!
So, I do feel partially responsible for adding to pressure the BO Administration for what needed to be done with those Somali rat-bastard Pirates— and no, I’m not going to call them by their politically correct and stool-softened name—I refuse! And, no, I’m not feeling bad for their demise either.
My satirical conversation between Barack and Jimmy hit the nail on the head. I’m sure there are people unhappy with the end response, but the heck with them—it needed to be done. More needs to be done and hopefully that is coming in both word and action.
Also, sidenote: you won’t see or hear anyone complaining about the course of action taken by the administration—because those who are in the tank for him would never say anything against him and those in the opposition camp are happy with the course of action because it needed to be done. The Republicans won’t use this as an opportunity to grab power—that’s just how it works.
Yes, I’m a little full of myself (and also making fun of myself a little,) but it’s these voices, OUR VOICES, we must be willing to use, speak up and out to be heard by our leaders who may or may not be listening! Make it so they have to listen. You know that annoying voice that can’t be ignored.
Here’s a happy ending on Easter Sunday for Hot Air readers. Captain Richard Phillips is now free from the pirates holding him hostage, and three of the four captors are now free of oxygen use as a result:
Update II: Looks like the initial reports were incorrect. After being authorized to use force by President Obama, Navy SEALs took their shots when it appeared the pirates were about to shoot Phillips. Kudos to the SEALs, and kudos to Obama for making the right call. If this had gone badly, he would have taken the blame, so it’s fair to credit him with taking the steps necessary to finally bring this to a happy conclusion.
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Maybe, Barack should call the great Ex-President Jimmy Carter for some advice… Let’s see how long that Nobel prize winner keeps his mouth shut when one of his own his steering the ship. Not that he has any Presidential successes of his own to draw from…
AP/FOXNews.com
POTUS Barack Obama: Ah, hey Jiminey I mean Jimmy, ah, I have this, situation developing. Ah, hostage thing, ah.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter: Hey Barack, can you use the teleprompter, this conversation has too many, ah’s and incomplete sentences for me to deal with. Didn’t you go to Harvard?
POTUS Barack Obama: Sorry Jimmy, ah, I had to send the damn thing out to be fixed. Maybe you can use, ah, those Nobel Peace prize skills, for a minute, ah, and cut me some slack. Ah, you sound like the failed policies of the previous administration and fat Bozo Limbaugh.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter: Barack, I’m the one that came up with the failed policies slogan, so you can thank me for that instead of the static.
POTUS Barack Obama: Jimmy, are, you kidding— after your presidency, you were the reason for that slogan.
Can we get back to my problem. There are hostages. Started as one hostage. And now,the poor Somali people who appropriated work of another for profit—Damn Capitalists!have appropriated another American ship. More hostages.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter:You mean the Pirate thing I’m watching on CNN? It’s not a big deal.
POTUS Barack Obama:Jimmy, Pirate is not the preferred nomenclature, we don’t use those type of inflammatory, hurt filled, fight starting, terminology, any more—this is a new, administration.
The new New Speak regulations from the office of Language and Communications Czar: Please replace Pirates with the poor Somali people who appropriated work of another for profit in any interviews—be a team player for Christ sake! Oh, and if you can add in the evil Capitalist simile it would help.
Jimmy the whole world is watching. Waiting. Judging me.I don’t know what to do, and it’s not even 3AM.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter: You are full of yourself aren’t you—the whole world is watching… Right. China, Putin, Osama, Kim Jong Il, they all have more important things to do than pay attention to how you deal with this non-crisis take my word for it.
POTUS Barack Obama:Jimmy Please! God dammit! I mean dammit, don’t want to offend any of our secular brothers and sister. Focus! (where are my smokes?)
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter:well, if you don’t do something about this Pirate, sorry, the poor Somali people who appropriated work of another for profit, the American people and Damn Capitalists are going to beat you to death with that Grail!
POTUS Barack Obama:I, ah, I, I know, Jimmy, that’s why I’m calling you. So far it appears that I’ve done nothing and I don’t know what to do.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter:well you haven’t done anything, that’s what I did and for a lot longer than 4 days—I’ll tell you that. If I only had a second term, I know they would have let them go. Maybe if the UN would have… Goddammed Reagan! He got all the credit for my patience! Bastard!
POTUS Barack Obama: Jimmy focus dammit! This is my crisis.
PPOTUS Jimmy Carter:You could send helicopters in the middle of the night after you try to put them to sleep with some kind of nerve gas. Naaah, it’il never work, scratch that.
You could blow-em up to kingdom come—shock and awe-em! It will send a clear message that the US doesn’t negotiate with terrorists! Lol, haha ha haha ha—I’m just kiddin with ya.
I would play it safe—do what I did… Patience.
Also, as a side note to the financial crisis, I’d think about raising taxes on everybody—forget that 250k and up strategy—doesn’t add up anyway!—somebodies got to pay for these programs—there aren’t enough rich people to do it.
(Heh, why should I be the loser president everyone refers to about the inability to deal with being held hostage and adding policies that helped create the worst economy since the Great Depression…)
***
Not so easy to steer the ship with the real world sending waves at you every single second—is it? Then add to that criticism from every angle—your own people and leaders, foreign leaders who wouldn’t mind if you got your ass kicked…
That’s why it matters what you say, who you’re speaking to and with what agenda, here and abroad…

By Duncan Miriri NAIROBI, April 11 (Reuters) – Pirates seized a U.S.-owned and Italian-flagged tugboat with 16 crew on Saturday in the latest hijacking in the busy Gulf of Aden waterway, a regional maritime group said. “This incident shows the pirates are becoming more daring and violent,” Mwangura told Reuters by phone.
