From Michelle:

Corruptocrat alert: Blagojevich taken into custody by FBI; conspired to sell/trade Senate seat, HHS position, stifle newspaper

The FBI was keeping its eye on the ball.

Blagojevich was taken into custody today by federal agents, the Chicago Tribune reports. The dirtbag details, which prosecutors call “staggering:”

Fun Facts: from Tom Elia: “This makes for the fourth out of the last seven elected Illinois governors to be indicted since 1960 (Otto Kerner, Dan Walker, George Ryan, and Rod Blagojevich) … since 1972, 28 Chicago alderman have been convicted of crimes. If this number was extrapolated to the US House, it would be as if over 240 congressman had been indicted in the same period.”

SHOCKER: Chicago Politician Is Corrupt by The Forum

No surprise here. ’Protesting’ with the workers of Republic Windows and Doors in Chicago yesterday, Illinois Governor Blagojevich tried to showcase his solidarity with the average working man, being a Democrat and all. Of course, it was nothing but grandstanding and political filler from a corrupt Democrat politician. Even more disturbing was his pathetic attempt at social ’justice’ after Repbulic’s credit lines with Bank of America were cut off. The governor threatened to cut off any state business with the bank unless the credit lines were reinstated.

Democrats on a streak by Ed Morrissey

In the matter of Rod Blagojevich, has anyone else noticed that the Democrats have a losing streak in governors? Over the last four years, they now have three of them charged with crimes in office. Jim McGreevey resigned from his post in New Jersey after appointing his gay lover to run the state’s Homeland Security effort, which distracted people from the pay-to-play scandals that had begun to dog his administration. Eliot Spitzer had to resign after federal investigators discovered that he utilized the same kind of call-girl networks that he targeted for state investigations. Now Rod Blagojevich finds himself in federal custody for official corruption.

That doesn’t mean that Republicans don’t have a history in governorships. George Ryan preceded Blagojevich and retired before he got indicted, and now he’s serving time in prison. John Rowland got bounced out of Connecticut’s governorship for wire and tax fraud. Those happened two presidential cycles ago, though, and since then the Democrats — who won the 2006 midterms on the basis of official corruption — have lost three major state governors.
