The House (Honey) Bunny

And now for something completely different! Well, we here at Irascible Chef we have needed a little levity lately! How you say, I don’t need or want to THINK!—entertain us, make us laugh!

No underlying messages, no deep meaning, no political overtones, no over-the-top for over-the-top sake ie. no ballbag on the drum set if you know what I mean! Girls just want to have FUN!

And what’s more fun than watching girls, who need some fun, having fun being girls? Exactly, that’s what I said. So, we went to see The House Bunny on Friday night!

Who can resist the darling Anna Faris? Anna is the girl from the Scary Movie series of spoofs. First of all Anna Faris is H O T ! But it’s not just her sculpted body and looks that make her hot, it’s that she is so funny, mixed with sweet, and you just don’t expect someone who is so easy on the eyes be able to pull off physical comedy!

The movie doesn’t center around the Playboy Mansion, PB magazine, or PB Bunnies, but is certainly a main theme. Anna’s character, Shelly, is a Playboy Bunny who is tricked out of her PB Mansion digs while Hef is away. Hugh Hefner does act as himself in the movie and does a great job! I enjoyed his part however small. He’s able to joke about himself and I like when people don’t take themselves so seriously. After all he is a serious guy!

Brief synopsis:

An aging Playboy Bunny named Shelly gets tricked out of her posh digs in the Playboy Mansion by a jealous newcomer wannabe. The ditsy, dressed like a-pole-dancer, Shelly finds herself homeless and without a family (a recurring theme through out her life and movie.) Shelly stumbles her way into being the house mother for a bunch of misfit sorority girls who are going to lose their house because they are so unpopular. All this while being sabotaged by the wannabe Bunny and the evil competing Sorority girls and house mothers.

  • Can Shelly help these girls, that for the most part don’t want her help or even want to go outside?
  • Can Shelly transform these homely closet case girls (dressed down so that the transformation will be even more unbelievable) into attractive, socially happening, Sorority girls that will draw in pledges and Frat boys?
  • Can Shelly figure out how to get Colin Hanks to love her—the whorish techniques that were used in the Mansion are not everyone’s cup of tea… (Can’t decide if Colin is that attractive yet, he is darling and darling goes along way—like charming and that pig from Green Acres does.)
  • Can Shelly’s original advocate in the Sorority, Natalie, played by Emma Stone, help save the day? (Emma Stone by the way is a darling in her own right!)
  • Will there be enough time before the Dean lowers the gavel and throws them all out of their house?

The House Bunny seems to be riffing on the Animal House theme. It works, not a classic like Animal House, but fun, light, and enjoyable! Go see for yourself!
